My medium is paper. I love paper; it’s what inspires me. I go into a store or my studio or anywhere there is paper and am so excited and inspired by what is in front of me that I just start sketching and working. When I started it was all about cutting paper and making an image solely out of paper. Now I have a deep feeling that the paint is just as important as the paper.
I am currently focused on constantly creating . My goal now is to find new and interesting ways to frame work, to create work and to prove that paper is as important a medium as paint or pencil. I feel the real magic occurs when the paint is added to the paper and gives it new life.
The purpose and intent of my work is to create art that has life breathed into it. I want people to look at my work and connect with something pure and happy. I love it when I look at my own work and giggle a little. I don’t claim to have artwork that makes a statement but I do claim to be doing something that matters. I think a little more smiling and a little more whimsy wouldn't hurt anyone.
For me, I start with the paper. I find paper and automatically know where it belongs and just start cutting. In the beginning there was a lot of research and thinking time. Now it’s like breathing, its just second nature. I feel like the cuts are in my muscles, that my hands know what to do more then my mind. At this point I think my muscles run the show, its a heart thing, I'm not sure my head has anything to do with it.
My work is unique clearly in its visual aesthetic but more importantly because it isn’t art for art’s sake; it is art that filled a need in my life and has now become a necessity.
